A security guard was killed and four residents abducted during a late-night attack by suspected bandits on a community in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.
The attackers reportedly invaded the area under the cover of darkness, causing panic among residents as gunshots echoed across the community. During the assault, the security guard on duty was shot and killed while attempting to protect residents from the attackers.
According to reports, four persons were subsequently taken away by the gunmen, who fled before security operatives could respond effectively. The identities of the abducted victims were not immediately disclosed.
The incident has heightened concerns about the growing insecurity in parts of the FCT, particularly in rural and border communities that have increasingly become targets of kidnapping gangs and armed criminals. Similar attacks have been reported in recent months, prompting calls for stronger security measures and improved intelligence gathering.
Residents of the affected community expressed shock over the attack and called on security agencies to intensify efforts to rescue the victims and prevent further incidents. Community leaders also urged the government to strengthen security presence in vulnerable areas.
Security authorities are said to have launched a search-and-rescue operation aimed at tracking down the perpetrators and securing the release of the abducted residents. Investigations into the attack are ongoing.
The latest incident underscores the persistent security challenges facing several communities within and around the nation’s capital, despite ongoing efforts by security agencies to dismantle kidnapping and banditry networks operating in the region.
Stakeholders have continued to advocate greater collaboration between security agencies, local communities, and government authorities to address the rising threat of kidnapping and violent crime across affected areas.
As residents await further updates, attention remains focused on the rescue efforts and the measures being put in place to improve security across the Federal Capital Territory.
