Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has stated that he is uncertain about his plans to contest the presidency in the 2027 elections.
Atiku, who has previously run for the presidency six times, made this remark in an interview for the yet-to-be-aired television show Untold Stories with Adesuwa Giwa-Osagie.
His statement comes just days after he announced the formation of a coalition of opposition leaders aimed at unseating the President Bola Tinubu-led All Progressives Congress (APC) government.
When asked whether he would run in the next election, Atiku responded that his decision would depend on the existence of a viable political platform.
“I don’t know because there has to be, first of all, a viable platform, more than any other time in the political history of this country, particularly since the return of democracy,” he said.
Although he did not rule out the possibility of contesting, Atiku emphasized the urgent need for competent leadership in Nigeria.
“I have not seen Nigeria in greater need of experienced and credible leadership than at this time,” he stated.
Reflecting on past political alliances, he recalled the 2014 merger that led to the formation of the APC, where several aspirants contested, one emerged, and the others rallied behind the winner.

There is growing speculation that Atiku may support former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi and former Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai in the 2027 election.
