President Bola Ahmed Tinubu reportedly held a closed-door meeting with suspended Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara in London last week, in a bid to resolve the political turmoil in the oil-rich state.
The meeting, which followed President Tinubu’s trip to Paris, was reportedly initiated at Fubara’s request.
According to The Africa Report, Fubara offered to make political concessions to de-escalate tensions and reclaim his position.
A senior presidential aide, speaking anonymously, confirmed ongoing negotiations and suggested that Fubara’s suspension might be lifted ahead of the six-month timeline.
There are also indications that Fubara may defect to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), in what insiders describe as a strategic move to strengthen ties with the presidency and reposition himself politically ahead of upcoming elections.
Notably absent from the London discussions was former Rivers State governor and current FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, who is said to be unhappy about being excluded.

President Tinubu is expected to convene a broader reconciliation meeting involving Fubara, Wike, and members of the Rivers State House of Assembly to chart a path toward lasting peace in the state.
