President Bola Tinubu has lauded the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, for his transformative infrastructural projects in Abuja, expressing confidence that his achievements will enhance the All Progressives Congress (APC)’s chances in the 2027 elections.
Speaking at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, during a Sallah homage led by Wike and a delegation of prominent FCT residents, Tinubu acknowledged the minister’s efforts in revitalizing the capital city.
Despite Wike being a member of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the President commended his commitment to governance and labeled him “Mr. Infrastructure.”
“I must thank the Honorable Minister of FCT. His work is evident in the remarkable transformation of Abuja,” Tinubu stated. “From breaking bureaucratic barriers to unlocking opportunities for upward mobility and urban development, his initiatives have significantly improved the lives of FCT residents.”
Wike’s Impact on FCT Development
Tinubu highlighted Wike’s role in revitalizing long-abandoned projects, including the Vice President’s residence, upgrading healthcare facilities, and improving public schools.
He recalled discussions with Wike regarding financial flexibility to accelerate development, emphasizing the minister’s dedication to delivering results.
“When he approached me about Treasury Single Account (TSA) constraints, I asked, ‘Will this help my party win the FCT?’ We had that political banter, but ultimately, his work has spoken for itself,” the President said.
Tinubu also credited Wike’s leadership for fostering peace, security, and economic stability in the FCT, stating that food prices were beginning to stabilize, and businesses were thriving.
A Testament to Nigeria’s Diversity
Recognizing Wike’s ability to govern effectively in a region outside his ethnic background, Tinubu described his leadership as a “reflection of Nigeria’s diversity.”
“Nyesom Wike is not from the North, yet he has successfully steered the FCT towards growth and unity,” Tinubu remarked. “This proves that our diversity, when harnessed correctly, can be a tool for prosperity.”
Wike Responds: “Encouraged to Do More”
Speaking to journalists after the visit, Wike expressed gratitude for the President’s acknowledgment of his efforts.
