Chelsea FC have sacked head coach Liam Rosenior following a disastrous run of form, appointing Calum McFarlane as interim manager for the remainder of the season. The decision comes after a string of poor performances, including five consecutive league defeats without scoring Chelsea’s worst run in over a century.
Rosenior, who was appointed in January on a long-term deal, lasted just over three months in charge, making his tenure one of the shortest in the club’s recent history. The final blow came after a humiliating 3–0 defeat to Brighton, which left Chelsea struggling in the race for European qualification and intensified pressure on the club’s hierarchy to act.
In a statement, the club acknowledged that the decision was not taken lightly but insisted that recent performances had fallen below expected standards.

McFarlane, who previously served as the club’s youth team coach and had earlier stepped in as caretaker this season, will now take charge as interim boss. His immediate task will be to stabilise the team ahead of a crucial FA Cup semi-final clash. The latest managerial change underscores ongoing instability at Chelsea, with the club now searching for yet another permanent coach amid mounting concerns over long-term direction and consistency.
As the season enters a decisive phase, attention will shift to whether McFarlane can steady the squad and salvage silverware while the club begins its search for a new long-term manager.
