The Nigerian Army has announced the recovery of suspected remains of two soldiers who were abducted and killed in 2022 while travelling for their traditional wedding in Imo State.
The victims were identified as Master Warrant Officer Linus Musa Audu and Private Gloria Mathew, who were reportedly attacked while en route to their marriage ceremony in May 2022.
According to the Army, the remains were discovered during a clearance operation carried out by troops of the 82 Division in collaboration with other security agencies along the Ubaha Orsu axis of Orsu Local Government Area of Imo State.
Military authorities said troops dismantled a suspected camp linked to the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed wing, the Eastern Security Network (ESN), during the operation.

Following the raid, soldiers reportedly uncovered shallow graves believed to contain the remains of the slain couple. The bodies were exhumed and secured for further forensic examination.
The Army stated that DNA testing would be conducted to conclusively establish the identities of the recovered remains before final burial arrangements are made. It added that efforts were ongoing to liaise with the families of the deceased personnel to ensure proper identification and organise befitting burial rites in honour of their service.
The military said the development highlights its continued operations to dismantle criminal networks in the South-East and reaffirmed its commitment to restoring peace in the region.
