The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has arrested a 40-year-old man, Yahaya Saleh, for allegedly attempting to bribe officers with ₦1.5 million in a bid to unlawfully secure the release of a suspected kidnapper.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Command revealed that the arrest was made during a covert operation conducted by its Scorpion Squad, which is currently investigating a kidnapping syndicate operating within Abuja and neighboring communities.

According to the statement, Saleh approached investigators and offered the cash bribe as a means to compromise the ongoing case and facilitate the suspect’s release.

Police officers rejected the offer and immediately apprehended Saleh, a move the Command praised as a demonstration of “professionalism, integrity, and unwavering commitment to justice.”

Commissioner of Police, CP Ajao Saka Adewale, commended the officers involved, reiterating the Command’s zero-tolerance policy towards corruption and obstruction of justice.

“The FCT Police Command remains firm in its commitment to the rule of law and will not allow any individual, regardless of status or influence, to undermine justice,” CP Adewale stated.

Investigations into the kidnapping syndicate are ongoing as authorities work to identify and apprehend other members linked to the criminal network.
