Senator Esther Nenadi Usman, the factional interim national chairman of the Labour Party (LP), has crossed over to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), where she has been appointed Chairman of the party’s coalition in Kaduna State, Daily Trust reports.
Usman, a former Minister of Finance and one-time senator representing Southern Kaduna, has effectively severed ties with LP’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, and Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti — key backers of her rise within the LP faction.
The appointment was confirmed by the ADC National Vice Chairman (North-West), Ja’afaru Sani, who described the development as part of a broader effort to bring opposition figures under a unified platform aimed at strengthening political inclusion and democratic participation in Kaduna.
Sani said the coalition is determined to reposition the ADC as a viable alternative to what he termed “the current hopeless APC regime of tyranny in the state and the country.”
“As part of the strategic objective to ensure the emergence of disciplined leadership in Kaduna, Senator Nenadi Usman and Alhaji Muhammad Bashir Saidu are hereby confirmed as Chairman and Co-Chairman of the coalition,” he announced.
According to him, the newly constituted coalition will serve as the rallying point for ADC activities and its restructuring across the state.

The development comes amid lingering leadership tussles in the Labour Party, where INEC-recognised National Chairman Julius Abure has expelled Governor Otti and several others aligned with the faction previously led by Usman.
