Aba Power has slammed false reports about a recent court ruling, calling them deliberate propaganda aimed at misleading the public. Contrary to viral claims, no judgment was issued against Aba Power on March 19, 2025.
The legal battle, initiated by Ike Opigwe, Chief Leonard Onyemesiri, and Ojukwu Imo on behalf of the Aba Electricity Consumers Forum (AECF), sought to challenge the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission’s (NERC) approval of a cost-reflective tariff. However, Aba Power countered that the Isialangwa High Court lacked jurisdiction, as NERC is a federal agency under the Federal High Court’s purview.
Justice Enyinnaya Okezie ruled that AECF, not being a registered entity, could not maintain the lawsuit, although the three individuals could proceed. The judge also struck out Geometric Power from the case and noted procedural errors in the claimants’ filings, including the incorrect naming of Aba Power.
Aba Power clarified that the ruling does not stop its staff from working, nor does it mandate customers to revert to old tariffs. The company reaffirmed that customers must pay the approved rates or face disconnection as per new electricity regulations.
Further condemning the lawsuit, Aba Power accused the claimants of blackmail and misinformation, alleging they had previously attempted a similar case through the Association of Aba Industrialists, only to later withdraw it.

Now appealing the ruling, Aba Power has urged the public to ignore false narratives and assured customers of its commitment to regulatory compliance and uninterrupted electricity supply.
Meanwhile at a resumed hearing on Friday Justice Enyinnaya Okezie adjourned the matter to April 29th 2025 to enable all parties file responses
