The Obidient Movement, a support group of Peter Obi, has criticised Yoruba Nation agitator Sunday Igboho over his warning that opposition politicians should not campaign in the South-West ahead of the 2027 elections.

In a strongly worded statement, the group described Igboho’s remarks as a threat to Nigeria’s democratic principles, insisting that no individual has the authority to restrict political activities in any part of the country.

Igboho, whose real name is Sunday Adeyemo, had earlier issued a warning in a viral video, cautioning former presidential candidates Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi against campaigning in the South-West. He also reportedly expressed support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and suggested that no other candidate would be allowed to gain support in the region.

Reacting, the Obidient Movement said such statements were “ill-founded” and declared Igboho an “enemy of democracy,” stressing that Nigeria is a free country where citizens are entitled to participate fully in political activities regardless of location.

“No single individual has the power to declare any part of this country a no-go area for democratic engagement,” the group said, adding that the constitutional rights of Nigerians to move freely, campaign, and vote must be protected at all times.

The movement also rejected suggestions of a “third term” agenda for President Tinubu, describing it as unconstitutional and an affront to Nigeria’s democratic history.

Encouraging political participation, the group urged Nigerians to freely campaign and support candidates of their choice across all regions of the country without fear or intimidation.

The exchange highlights rising political tensions ahead of the 2027 general elections, as key actors and support groups begin to position themselves in what is expected to be a fiercely contested race.
