Reps Speaker Abbas Tajudeen Declares Bid for Re-Election

Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abbas Tajudeen, has formally declared his intention to seek re-election to the National Assembly ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Abbas, who represents Zaria Federal Constituency in Kaduna State, reportedly made the declaration during a political gathering attended by party supporters, stakeholders, and community leaders.

The Speaker said his decision to seek another term was driven by the need to sustain legislative reforms, strengthen democratic governance, and continue constituency development projects initiated during his tenure in the House.

He also highlighted the activities of the 10th House of Representatives under his leadership, including efforts to improve legislative transparency, oversight functions, and cooperation between the executive and legislative arms of government.

Abbas pledged to continue advocating policies aimed at improving infrastructure, education, security, youth empowerment, and economic growth if re-elected.

Supporters at the event reportedly praised the Speaker’s leadership style and legislative experience, expressing confidence in his ability to continue representing the interests of his constituency and contributing to national policymaking.

Since emerging as Speaker in June 2023, Abbas has played a key role in legislative debates on economic reforms, constitutional amendments, security matters, and electoral issues within the National Assembly.

Political observers believe Abbas’ re-election bid could further consolidate his influence within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the House leadership structure ahead of 2027.

The announcement comes amid increasing political consultations and positioning among lawmakers and political officeholders as preparations gradually intensify for the next election cycle.
