A new player has officially joined Nigeria’s vibrant telecommunications sector as Lebara Nigeria, a subsidiary of the UK-based Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO) Lebara Group, rolls out its services with the 0724 phone number series. This marks a bold entry into Africa’s largest telecom market, aiming to challenge industry giants like MTN, Airtel, Globacom, and 9mobile.
Lebara Nigeria, which holds a Tier 5 MVNO license the highest category issued by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has completed interconnectivity with all major network operators in the country. This integration ensures customers will enjoy seamless voice and data services from launch. The company says it has the infrastructure, regulatory compliance, and operational capacity in place to offer innovative, digital-first telecom solutions nationwide.
Chief Operating Officer Akin Adesokan stated, “Our readiness with the 0724 series and full interconnect setup underscores our unwavering commitment to seamless integration, customer freedom, and market inclusivity.” In a move to differentiate itself, Lebara will offer voice minutes instead of traditional airtime, giving customers exact usage control. “If your call ends in 30 seconds, you still have 99 minutes and 30 seconds left,” explained Samuel Alabi, Head of Corporate Communications.
This clarity and user-centric approach could reshape pricing expectations in a market serving over 220 million active mobile lines.
