Former President of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN), Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor, has delivered a scathing assessment of President Bola Tinubu’s administration, declaring that Nigerians have little reason for optimism amid worsening economic and social conditions.
Speaking during a television interview, the cleric argued that the country’s challenges have deepened under the current government, insisting that many citizens are struggling to cope with rising hardship and declining living standards.
Oritsejafor questioned the administration’s “Renewed Hope” agenda, contending that hope cannot be renewed where it barely exists in the first place. According to him, the average Nigerian is facing severe economic difficulties and increasingly looking to faith rather than government policies for reassurance.
The former PFN president also advised President Tinubu against seeking another term in office, arguing that the government should focus on addressing the country’s mounting challenges rather than future political ambitions. He maintained that leadership requires honesty about the nation’s problems and the capacity to provide effective solutions.
Reflecting on Nigeria’s political trajectory, Oritsejafor said he had previously expressed concerns about the direction of governance in the country and believes the situation has deteriorated further over the years. He noted that the current realities facing ordinary Nigerians compelled him to return to public commentary on national issues after a period of relative silence.
The cleric stressed the need for greater accountability from political leaders, emphasizing that public officials must be held responsible for policies and decisions that affect citizens’ welfare. He said religious leaders also have a duty to speak out when the well-being of the people is at stake.
His remarks have added to the growing debate over the state of the nation, economic reforms, and the performance of the current administration as political discussions ahead of the 2027 elections continue to gather momentum.
