The All Progressives Congress (APC) has accused the Abia State Government of sponsoring skits that promote violence, in a deepening political row that underscores growing tensions ahead of the 2027 elections.

In a statement, the opposition party condemned what it described as the use of staged media content to incite unrest, warning that such actions could inflame an already fragile political atmosphere in the state.

The APC’s reaction follows claims by the Abia government that certain political actors were plotting to destabilise the state through orchestrated protests and misinformation campaigns.

According to the party, rather than address pressing governance issues, the state government had resorted to what it termed “sponsored propaganda,” alleging that some of the circulating skits were deliberately crafted to provoke public anger and justify crackdowns on perceived opponents.

The Abia State Government, however, has maintained that intelligence reports point to a planned effort by opposition elements to incite violence, including attempts to mobilise individuals to stage protests that could spiral into confrontation.

Authorities warned that such developments could lead to a breakdown of law and order, with potential clashes between agitators and security operatives if not contained.

The APC dismissed the allegations, insisting that it does not support any form of violence and calling on security agencies to remain neutral and professional in handling political activities in the state.

The exchange highlights a widening rift between the ruling administration and opposition forces in Abia, with both sides trading accusations over security threats and political messaging.

Observers say the controversy reflects a broader pattern of heightened political rhetoric, as parties begin early positioning ahead of future electoral contests, raising concerns about the role of media narratives in shaping public perception and stability.
